Gloucester Road, Hampton

Completed: November 2017

Completed in 2009, this £500k project in Hampton was conceived by 3s Architects to include a loft conversion, and a significant remodelling of the interior space. This included the relocation of the staircase to a semi-exposed position on the side of the house, with full height frameless glazing as a wonderful solution to providing protection from the elements. A contemporary open-plan single story rear extension provides the family a modern living space, with a beautiful hand crafted kitchen from Callaghan Interiors as the central focus, and a generously proportioned dining area providing all the space needed for entertainment.

This is the perfect example of a project making the very best of the space available, when imagination and vision, and a client open to ideas, can unlock the full potential most often seemingly hidden within a house. In following this innovative route, new space was made available where it was always thought that there was none. By moving the staircase halfway into the former driveway, additional space was made available on all three floor levels, allowing the addition of a WC and Utility Room to the Ground Floor, a spacious bathroom at first floor level, and continuous access to the Master Suite in the newly converted loft. A new wrap-around timber clad single storey extension to the side and rear opens up the rear of the building, and provides the owner with a vastly improved living space, which also enjoys virtually uninterrupted views of the rear garden via the full height sliding aluminium patio doors from High Quality Joinery. A full width contemporary styled dormer structure to the rear makes maximum use of available space for the new master bedroom, whilst at the same time its clean, rendered external finishes, with zinc detailing, maintains a clean, modern aesthetic. A spacious en-suite occupies the existing gable structure alongside, with the two distinctly different architectural finishes sitting together in perfect harmony.
