Situated in the picturesque rural village of Dummer, Hampshire, this five-bedroom residence began as a proposed refurbishment of a modest single-storey 1970s home. However, as the architectural vision evolved, the scope transitioned into a full new-build, allowing us to realise a truly bespoke and architecturally ambitious home, tailored to both the site and the client's aspirations.

While the original property served as a loose reference, the final design embodies a bold reinterpretation of rural modernism. A robust brick colonnade at the front elevation anchors the building in the landscape and pays subtle homage to the original dwelling, creating a sense of permanence and arrival. In contrast, the rear elevation opens generously to the surrounding countryside, featuring full-height glazing and two striking copper-clad volumes that extend into the garden, framing uninterrupted views of rolling hills and farmland.

The ground floor has been carefully configured in a U-shaped plan, balancing function with flow. It accommodates three well-appointed bedrooms, a home gym, a private study, a laundry suite, and two principal living areas - the most expansive of which is a seamlessly integrated kitchen, dining, and living space that opens westward onto the primary garden terrace. This connection between indoor and outdoor living was achieved with precision detailing, allowing materials and sightlines to transition effortlessly.

At the heart of the home, a finely crafted cantilevered staircase rises from the entrance hall to the upper level, discreetly housed within one of the copper boxes. Here, the master suite and a private guest wing enjoy direct access to a full-width balcony - each space positioned to take full advantage of panoramic views across the surrounding landscape. Every element of this build - from the structure to the finishes - has been executed with meticulous care, showcasing the high standards of craftsmanship and architectural sensitivity we bring to all our projects.
